Be Fraud Smart
Scam Alert – British Gas refund — www.essex.police.uk
Beware of a phishing email which appears to be from British Gas.
The scam claims you are due a refund for overpaying in 2020-21 and will ask you to follow a link to claim the refund of £315.
The email generally contains a fake 7-digit reference that starts with BG and the British Gas Logo.
If in doubt about an email, contact the organisation directly and do not click on any links.
The legitimate organisation will be happy to help you and not pressure you into providing unnecessary information.

Obituaries
The Chief Constable regrets to inform you of the sad death of our former colleague Steven Rodwell who retired as a Constable in 1995 and served at Basildon and Southend. He passed away on 5 October 2022 aged 56 years.
This week we remember
William Campling — www.essex.police.uk
William Campling was the High Constable (the modern equivalent of the Chief Constable) of the Saffron Walden Borough Police Force. He died from shock, induced by the receipt of about 40 to 60 gun pellets into his left leg and over 60 into his right leg. He had been shot on Wednesday 31st October, 1849 and died some 9 days later. Jo-Ann Jennings — www.essex.police.uk
Jo-Ann was 21 when she joined Essex Police after previously serving as a Special Constable for almost two years. Jo-Ann was a passenger in a police car which was involved in an unexplained accident in Brentwood Road, Orsett. So severe were her injuries that she died shortly afterwards on November 12th, 1989.
