This week we remember
Harold Greenhaigh
Harold Greenhaigh served with Essex County Constabulary from April 26 1937. Prior to this he joined the Territorial Army on 4 January 1932, and progressed to the regulars on 4 April 1933 where he remained for exactly four years. Harold married on 25 November 1939, prior to his recall to the army six days later. He contracted a rare blood disease and as a result was discharged from the army having attained the rank of Sergeant in the Grenadier Guards. He succumbed to the disease at Black Notley Hospital on 12 June 1943.
Basil John Boggis
Basil Boggis served with Essex County Constabulary from June 13, 1938. After training at Headquarters he was posted to Braintree from 6 August 1938. After several posting around the county, Basil left the police on 13 September 1943 and joined the army the following day. Basil was killed in action on Monday, 2 October 1944, whilst serving as Lance Corporal 14664830 with 3rd Battalion, Irish Guards. He was aged 29.
David Miller Kirk
David Kirk served with Colchester Borough Constabulary from 1934. In December 1939 David joined the Royal Artillery as a Lieutenant. He was killed on Friday, 16th June 1944 whilst serving as Major 148698 with 301 Battery, 127 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. David Miller Kirk was buried in grave I.C.14 at the Ranville War Cemetery in Calvados, France.

Obituaries
James Fletcher
The Chief Constable regrets to inform you of the sad death of our former colleague James Fletcher who retired as a Constable in 1995 and served at Basildon, Brentwood and Grays. He passed away on the 15th May 2023 aged 72 years.
Sue Harrison - funeral update
Last week we announced the death of former Assistant Chief Constable Sue Harrison who passed away on Wednesday 31 May. Her funeral will take place at Layer Marney Church, Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, Essex on Monday 26 June 2023 starting at 12:00. More details.
