Increase in theft of Ford Fiestas
We’ve seen an increase in people reporting their Ford Fiestas being stolen.
Uniformed police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have been out on foot patrol and in marked police cars to deter potential thieves.
While officers in normal clothes and unmarked cars have been on the lookout for suspicious behaviour.
To help keep your vehicle safe, consider using extra security features such as a full round steering lock or on-board diagnostic (OBD) protection, which can help prevent thieves gaining access to your car.
If you see any suspicious behaviour, please report it to us. You can give us information by using our Digital 101 service on our website. If you see a crime happening, then call us on 999.
Our Stolen Vehicle Intelligence Unit work to tackle organised vehicle crime and last year recovered a record number of stolen vehicles. Every year the team are tracking down more stolen vehicles and building a bigger intelligence picture.
Be fraud smart
With winter on the way you might have trees that need cutting back or a broken fence panel that need replacing.
Please be aware of anyone knocking on your door offering these types of services.
Always get a written quote with the company details on and agree the terms of when you will pay for the work. Ideally once it has been finished.
Rogue traders sometimes increase the price after the work has been carried out or halfway through a job.
They have been reported to even offer to escort you to a bank to get the extra cash.
Never feel pressured into deciding on the spot.
If a company, is legitimate they will give you the time to do some research and be happy to provide quotes in writing.

This week we remember
William Edward Paxton
William Paxton served with Essex County Constabulary from April 1, 1911. As a reservist and with the outbreak of war, he returned to the Coldstream Guards after three years. William and four of his colleagues were killed instantly in one shell explosion on 9 October 1915 whilst under fire from German artillery.
Hubert James Edwards
Hubert Edwards served with Essex County Constabulary from May 1, 1912. After three years patrolling the streets, he volunteered to enlist with the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards on May 18, 1915. Hubert was killed on 12 October 1917 along with 744 others during the first two weeks in October in heavy rain, trying to move forward a few hundred yards to improve their tactical position.
Edward Jack Gillingham
Edward Gillingham served with Southend Borough Constabulary. He and his wife were killed as a result of enemy action on 14 October 1940. A German raider released two heavy bombs whilst being pursued by a British fighter in the Thames Estuary. One of the bombs fell at the rear of Edward’s house where he and his wife were talking a walk together in their garden before he was sue to go on duty.
