Commercial Vehicle Unit use new camera to record road offences
Our Commercial Vehicle Unit have acquired a new camera that will help them identify offenders and capture evidence of offences being committed on our roads, making it easier to prosecute those committing road-related offences.
The camera, funded by National Highways, will be used to capture evidence of drivers who flout the law and whose driving poses a threat to the safety of other road users on fast roads, including A12, A120, M25, M11 and A130.
Georgia Harrison thanks Essex Police following conclusion of hearing
A man who was found guilty of revenge porn offences was ordered to pay back over £27,000.
Stephen Henry Bear, 34, from London appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday, 28 March for the hearing, drawing a close to a three- and half-year investigation by Essex Police.

Rural officers urge dog walkers to keep pets on leads near livestock
Even if your dog doesn’t attack, it can cause stress to other animals.
Our rural engagement officers are asking anyone who walks their dogs in the countryside to keep their pets on leads near livestock.
Attacks on livestock across Essex can be caused by dogs, which are being walked off-lead or have escaped from insecure gardens at properties neighbouring farms and smallholdings.
Officers across Essex support national Anti-Spiking Intensification Week
Officers from Essex Police took part in a targeted week of action to educate the public around the issue of spiking by speaking to people in towns and cities across the county.
The proactive week of activities saw officers engage with people about the issue by visiting schools, colleges, universities and shopping centres to share advice, offer support and hand out test kits.
Loughton: Three arrested and knives seized
Three young people have been arrested and three knives have been seized after a quick response to reports of an armed robbery being carried out in Loughton.
Reports suggested three young people had approached a teenage boy at Loughton underground station and threatened him with a knife at about 3pm yesterday, Thursday 28 March.
Officers, including armed and those with taser capability, responded to the reports and carried out a widespread search alongside colleagues from British Transport Police (BTP).
Within 19 minutes of being deployed, officers had located and arrested three people. Three knives were also safely seized.
All three, boys aged 17, 15 and 14, were taken to custody and questioned on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and robbery.
Be-spoke engagement for isolated rural areas
Mountain bikes are proving key to our Rural Engagement Team’s ability to fight crime and engage with rural communities across Essex.
Drivers arrested as work continues to keep Essex Roads safe
Six arrested as part of Essex Police work to tackle crime and keep our roads safe.
The first two arrests happened when a car believed to be connected to a theft from a shop in Braintree was stopped in Brentwood. Following a search a number of goods, which had been reported stolen, were found. The driver and passenger were both arrested.
Arrest three came when our officers spotted a car which was being driven badly on the M25 near Brentwood. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. His vehicle was also seized as it was not covered with any insurance.
In Colchester officers from our Roads Policing Unit pursued a vehicle after it failed to stop when requested. Officers from other units supported and the vehicle eventually stopped. In the fourth arrest of the evening the driver was arrested for numerous offences including dangerous driving and theft of a vehicle.
Arrests five and six were in connection with a high value theft from a shop in Kent.

National recognition for Proactive Orders Enforcement Team
The Proactive Orders Enforcement Team (POET) have been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the iESE, a social enterprise that champions examples of innovation in the public sector.
POET apply for and manage criminal and civil orders imposed on offenders, then conduct unannounced checks to ensure the conditions are being complied with.
Offenders are legally required to follow the terms of their orders, and a breach could lead to them being arrested and sent to prison.
Officers secure another 43 charges for shop theft
In recent weeks, 24 people were arrested on suspicion of shop theft across the county, with 15 subsequently being charged with a total of 43 counts of shop theft. Three of those were also charged with assault.
Business crime officers work with the retail community to stress the importance of reporting shop theft, abuse and violence against staff.
And, together with our designing out crime officers, they provide individual stores with tailored crime prevention and security advice. All this work comes under the banner of Open For Business, Closed For Crime.
Essex countryside news
Livestock worrying is a concern in rural areas but one we aim to tackle, says Sergeant Ben Felton.
Ben and his colleagues focus on supporting our rural communities. Our Rural Engagement Team.
These officers have an understanding about how a rural community works. An in-depth knowledge about the things which matter to our countryside communities. They understand that rural crime and anti-social behaviour can effect livelihoods. They work to prevent, detect, and deter crime, as well as making sure they catch those intent on causing the community harm.
The work of the Essex Police Rural Engagement Team is incredibly diverse. But, whatever we are doing, supporting rural communities and businesses is at the heart of our role.
Residents thank Roads Policing officers for carrying out speed checks
Last week, our Roads Policing officers conducted speed checks as part of Operation Vision Zero, highlighting road safety issues and targeting drivers who were breaking the law by speeding.
In just one day, Saturday 23 March, a total of 69 drivers were reported for speeding offences as officers recorded them driving in excess of speed limits whilst the road conditions made it hazardous – hail and heavy rain fell throughout the day and pedestrians and cycles in residential areas were plentiful on a Saturday morning.
The Roads Policing officers focussed on Harlow, Brentwood and Stansted in the west, and Pitsea and Basildon in the south of the county, where residents thanked the officers for monitoring speeds ensuring their safety and providing a listening ear.
In four locations where the speed limit was 30mph and speeding is a concern, our officers recorded 27 drivers breaking the speed limit.

Help keep your home safe
With summer on the way consider how small changes to your garden could help make your home more secure.
Our top tips are:
Use tactical planting of low-growing thorny shrubs around fences, windows or drainpipes.
Outdoor lighting can be a good deterrent for a burglar
Make sure sheds and gates are secured with close shackle padlocks and pad bolts. Remember to replace them when they start to rust.
Be fraud smart
Scam alert!
Fraudsters are sending fake text messages from delivery companies, saying they need more details or asking you to click a link to reschedule a delivery.
The messages are copying the company's logos and basic information to make you think they are real.
Do not click on any link from an unknown sender. Check the number or URL address and if you are expecting a package go to the company site directly to track your parcel.
