Crime prevention advice
Preventing stolen doorstep deliveries
Here are some things you could do to reduce the risk of doorstep theft:
track your parcel to ensure you or someone else is at home for the delivery
install a video doorbell; this can be connected to your mobile so you are notified immediately of any delivery, and is easier to install than a full CCTV system
install a security light
arrange for your parcel to be delivered to a trusted neighbour, or other family members who will be at home; if you live in a flat, is there a concierge who could accept the parcel for you?
use an off-site locker service for frequent deliveries, or for expensive items; these parcel boxes are more likely to be in busy, safer locations - such as supermarkets - rather than secluded areas which could be targeted by thieves
Be fraud smart

This week we remember
This week we will remember Thomas Wake and Rod Daniels.
Rod Daniels served with Essex Police for over 30 years from 4 June 1970. On 8 February 2001, he was on duty driving back from court at Harwich on the A12. He stopped at the scene of an accident close to a bend in the road near Kelvedon. After marked cars and colleagues arrived on scene, Rod, wearing a fluorescent jacket, walked down the verge to warn other drivers. He was struck by a maroon Ford Sierra and was killed.
He had received four Chief Constable's commendations, one for calmness when confronted by a man with a loaded shotgun. He was 53 years old and left a widow and two sons.
Thomas Arthur Wake
Thomas Arthur Wake served with Essex County Constabulary from 22 August 1921. He previously served in the Norfolk Regiment during the First World War and was wounded in the battle of Mons. After 5 years with Essex Constabulary, he was on patrol near Billericay when he was knocked over by a motor bike. Thomas was off duty for a month suffering from bad headaches and fits. He returned to work on 5 February 1927 and died three days later.
